I’m a 35 year old male. I have just dipped under 18 minutes for 5km and this is my PB.
I currently run 30 miles a week and do this very consistently. This is usually one 5km time trial and the rest are easy runs (8-8:30 min miles), fitting thinks in as I can amongst work and family life.
I’ve been running consistently for the last 10-15 years, but over the last year have ramped things up from 20 to 30 miles a week and decided to spend the next 2-3 years focussing on 5km and 10km distances and nothing longer.
I’m interested to know how fast I could get over the next 2-3 years for 5km if I take things a bit more seriously. I am about a stone overweight at the moment and think I can probably shave another minute off my time with weight loss and the same training schedule.
Beyond that, I’m wondering how hard it will likely be to ramp up on training quantity and quality to go from a 17 minute to a 15 minute 5km time?
