20M. I started running seriously again last summer after a long break and built up pretty quickly to 60-70 mpw with two harder sessions + LR while racing 800-5000s. My results were 2:08/4:25/9:45/16:51. I never really tapered as such- I just took 2-3 easy days before each race while making up the mileage afterwards.
Over XC season I bumped my mileage up to 70-80 with a couple of 2-3wk spells at 80-90 and recently ran a new road 5K PB of 15:50. My track season is starting soon and I want to target the 1500, which was my best event when I was younger (my 4:19 PB is the only mark I haven't improved upon yet since my "comeback"). I've put in a lot of base-building work but I think I lack speed endurance and may be slightly fatigued after months of consistent high mileage.
My current plan for the next few weeks is to put in some more 1500-specific sessions and add some fast hills/200s as a third, smaller workout. I also sense that 80+ mpw may be overkill, so I'm planning to drop to 60-70, maybe 40-50 around races so that I'm truly fresh. Does this seem sensible?
