I've done double threshold for a while now and I think it has helped my endurance a lot, but what are people's experiences with substituting the evening threshold for a mile paced workout, to make it more like Canova's special blocks? This would be for an upper 14s athlete who is best at the 3k/5k but struggles in the mile; 800 and 8k are fine.
For example, my normal double threshold would vary between 5:10 and 5:30 pace for reps of 3-10 minutes (or kilometers ~3:10), but could doing something like 3x10' + 2x5x300 ~ mile effort be a good fitness booster, to get comfortable at running at mile effort on slightly tired legs and to make sure your body still 'knows how' to produce lactate?
