I'm glad I am a graduate of a university that has a policy of not granting honorary degrees. Such awards seem like a cheesy way for a school to associate itself with somebody popular.

Why not give a medal instead?
given the amount of work you have to do get a PhD, I don't get how they can simply give them away. But, being famous leads to all sorts of advantages.

It's not like it's a qualification, so who cares. Later if there's a Bill Cosbyesque scandal, they can make a big deal of revoking it.
