Hello! We had a workout today (3x800, 4x400m, 4x200) with 2:30 rest between the 800s and 400s, and 4 minutes of rest between the 200s.
Here were the splits:
2:50, 2:44, 2:42 (about 3200m effort)
74, 74, 75, 73 (about mile effort)
31, 32, 31, 31 (about 800 effort, but went WAY faster)
Based on this workout, what do you think I could run in the mile?
For more context, my current PR is 5:19 and I currently run only 20 mpw, but have ran 30 before (during XC). On a scale of one to ten, I think this workout was a 9/10. It was tough, but by no means a race effort.
Pacing Strategies
Along with asking what you think I could run in the mile, I had another question. What is the best way to pace a mile race, in high school? I've tried to run even splits but haven't been able to run it perfectly even.
Typically, most high school races I have been in start out extremely fast (like splitting a 75 first lap and finishing with a 5:30). Is this the best way to run it, or is there another way?
Thank you!
