Last time I ran the 400 open was when I was in 12th grade. That was 5 years ago and my fat time was 50.5. That was my last high school race and then I was bumped up to the 800m in college, where I've never progressed faster than 1:57. I did run the 400 in relays and was always between ~51-52 though. This was never off of fresh legs and always after I ran the 800.
I'm 1 year out of college and I'm training for a couple of unattached races this year / next year. I want to break 50 in the 400, I think it's possible. I'm 21.
I ran a 400m time trial just off of base mileage and easy runs (20mi/wk) 2 weeks ago and went 56 in trainers. If it was in a racing condition with spikes it probably would've been 54-55. Again, no workouts or training.
I'm starting to do workouts but I don't even know what types of workouts to do & the paces I should hit. My next unattached race is at the end of March and I'm hoping to maybe get back down to 51-52? I don't know if that's too unrealistic for the time frame.
What kind of workouts would help me get there?
