How does Siena Palicke have over 100k instagram followers ?

There's a lot of ways to get followers. The number 1 way is you pay for ads that direct people to follow you (what most people do). Sex also sells. I don't know what she looks like or what she posts but anything in small running or swimming attire will get you a lot of followers. There's also personality. But even with those last two, you have to pay to get your posts in front of people. It's not like ads where it says "shop here." The algorithm puts posts in front of people who like similar things to what you post. Hence, she shows up on your feed. The content still needs to be good or people won't care to follow you.

Some might say, "what kind of dipstick would you pay for followers?" Well, you can be an influencer and make money/get free stuff and/or start a business and sell stuff to your following. I know golf "influencers" who only have 3,000-5,000 followers and companies send them free stuff (hats, shirts, balls, training devices).

Slightly above average face but good body

Never underestimate the number of lonely, socially awkward young men that will simp for anything remotely attractive on TikTok. As a previous poster stated, she showed up in my feed for some reason (probably because I follow a few runners) and I fail to see the big deal. She's a very average looking skinny girl, her content is run-of-the-mill young girl empowerment fluff, and she is a JV level running talent at best.

Is that really enough? I didn't want to focus this thread on her appearance but that really seems to be the only explanation other than straight up buying followers. Even then though, there are tons of good looking college runners who have a better running resume and have active social channels so I'm still a little baffled. There was a thread a while ago about Rachel McArthur's follower count but she's a much more accomplished/well-known runner and, in my humble opinion, way better looking yet has about 1/4th the followers. I guess I just don't get it...

Rachel's numbers are actually quite good, if you put consideration into how frequently she posts, how "targeted" her posts are, etc.

If Rachel were posting daily thirst traps and "omg relatable" content, she could be doing better numbers than Siena.

Hell, she could probably get a nice follower bump if she simply stopped posting pictures with Cooper.

True. I guess the PG-13 content mixed with generic "runner-girl" advice is what the kids are into these days. Just suprised that could take someone I've never heard of running-wise so far.

She also gained a weird following demographic when she left UCLA for Texas and repeatedly threw shade at the program/school. Wasn’t vaccinated, and wanted a school that “aligned with her views”. The religious praisers with bigoted views are a special kind of insufferable

Sub 5 mile for a woman is “JV”? Compared to pros or all Americans, but come on, she is a legit average (or better?) D1 runner. Which is something a lot of runners would like to be.
