Went into my half marathon race with a 1:40 goal. Ended up just over 1:46. Previous best was a 1:51. 5k split 23:49 and 10k was 46:34. At 10 miles I was at 1:17.10, a 7:43/mile pace, slowing down, and then the wheels came off. I trained for 16-17 weeks. I'm thinking this was too long. The training for the last 3-4 weeks was all the same. 3 easy runs of 45 minutes and 2 goal pace runs clocking only 20-30 mins at goal pace in between warm up/cool down. Those last several weeks were all around 26 miles per week. I peaked at 41 miles in a week 5-6 weeks out, and then there were no runs that went over 7ish miles a month out from the race. The plan was from my Garmin watch app. I suppose that was a mistake. I'm fairly new to running and have no idea how to structure a plan myself. I went into the race very confident I'd hit my goal, but it was clear mid-race I just didn't have enough gas in the tank. It probably didn't help is was mid 70s with mid 80% humidity. How do I train so I don't hit that wall at the 10 mile mark?
