A 16 year old Aussie has run 3:40 for 1500m and a 3:55 mile. Pretty sure he will run 7:48 3k next weekend. Don't get too excited.
I disagree completely..3:40.86 is really good..converts to 3:58 low to mid for the mile. This is after shipping to and from half way around the world(even though two weeks gap) and training for XC type stuff. All Time HS run off what he had done. The Aussie is on his own level right now, but Young is gonna run even faster by a bit in 2-3months. He is very fit right now.
Devil's advocate here. A 1500 isn't a mile, so until he actually breaks 4:00 in a full mile, he cannot claim to be a sub-4:00 miler (which, as far as I know, he has not done). Brody Hasty ran 4:00.05 in high school, and he will NEVER be known as a high schooler who broke 4:00 in the mile.
Certainly Leo Young has the talent and guts to go sub-4 before his high school career is over, but until he does, talk is cheap.
That said, his 1500 run last night was spectacular and more than encouraging about his future endeavors at the mile distance.

Honestly agree just not as many people get 1500-mile conversions or what the times mean.
A 3:40 should stand on it's own but people understand it better as "basically 3:58"

I understand that he did not run a sub 4 minute mile.

Do you only have room in your mind for one good runner at a time. If I recommend a good movie, can you also like a different movie at the same time. Can a movie be good, even if The Godfather is even better?
Where you joking around or do you think positivity and excitement for our fellow runners is somehow misplaced or unwarranted? If I am from Holland am I allowed to like Femke Bol more than Sydney, even thought Sydney is better?
Can you explain your thought process so people won't think you are a jerk? I am sure in your mind what you wrote makes sense, right?

I know it’s a devil’s advocate argument, but by this logic would an en route mile time (if the split wasn’t recorded) not count? I’m guessing you’d say that no it doesn’t count. So we can’t say that Kenenisa Bekele was a sub 4:00 miler?!? Even though he absolutely had to hit 1609m under 4:00 in his 4:49 indoor 2000m, I guess he’s not a sub-4 miler because he kept running. And that 3:32 1500 definitely doesn’t count because, I mean, who knows how that last 109 meters would’ve gone for a guy capable of running that time, right?
