How disappointing is it to see and Israeli run 2:05 and we have only one dude who can even break 2:10. Just embarrassing. How many more 2:11s and 2:15s are we going to see without a truly elite time? And this is with the Super Shoes! These guys have had their shots and have failed multiple times. Time to throw out the dirty bathwater and begin filly the tub again with fresh, clean water. Give others a chance to shine because the current group has been beyond lackluster. Maybe allow Mantz a chance but everyone else - GET OUT OF HERE!

Run faster and displace one of them. Otherwise, be quiet.
It's gonna take a world-class talent to compete with the Africans in the marathon. And even then, you get a Dathan Ritzenhein who just couldn't quite master the event.
I know it's sad, but - we will never see American dominance on the roads.
If you're only running 2:11+ and are 'professional' then yes. But if you're someone who's running 2:11-2:15 while working a full time job as many people are doing, then keep doing you.

Bingo. It's easy to talk trash about people who are faster than you. Go beat them if you think they're so bad. The roads are wide open.

I didn't choose marathoning as my profession - they did. They don't have to completely give up running. They can clean up at their local turkey trot impressing the locals with a 14:53.
What are you, a communist? It's a free country, my dude. If companies want to sponsor someone else, they can. If someone else wants to train harder and run faster, there are plenty of coaches to work with. The current crop of pro marathoners aren't stopping anyone else, so until someone better comes along (by running faster, not by whining on a message board), they're all we've got.
How does someone running what you consider a slow marathon prevent others from having a "chance to shine?" The idea that the current crop should be forced out is idiotic because a) there's no way or reason to do it and b) no one is being deprived of a chance to shine.

As others have said, the roads are wide open. However, I am pretty surprised that no American has come close to Hall’s 2:06 that he ran eons ago in London. Especially with the super shoes. People try to pretend that the super shoes aren’t a game changer, but they realistically are worth a second per lap on the track, and it really shows up in a marathon helping to defray the muscle fatigue. Today’s 2:06 is yesterday’s 2:08.
I love Mantz, and hopefully his grinding mindset will help cultivate the next generation of marathoners.
There shouldn't even be a trials marathon. That only rewards mediocrity.
Just send the top 3 runners faster than 2:06 in any certified marathon. If that's zero runners, so be it. I'm long since done dissing Rupp, but he needs to break 2:06 already if the best are at 2 flat.
