Dude ran 27:38 his very first time on the track for a 10,000. To think he can't improve 48 seconds (7.7 seconds per mile) seems a little silly. One day he'll have the perfect race on the perfect day at peak fitness and he'll bust a 26:50 (or better).
Yeah, because EVERY elite runner improves 50 seconds at 10k over the course of his career! C'mon Flagpole, YOU are the one being silly. You throw out times like 26:50 and 12:50 as if they aren't a big deal really, and just a matter of maturity for Ritz. NO NON-AFRICAN HAS EVER APPROACHED THESE TIMES.....EVER. You do realize that, right?? Being the fastest non-African, by far, in history, is A BIG DEAL, and you act like there is absolutely no doubt Ritz has shown the ability to do those times. I mean, there is an out-out-outside chance he could run those times some day, but for you to act like they are forgone certainties is absurd. And you wonder why people give your crap sometimes?
And to say it was his "first time on the track for a 10,000" is a little misleading. I mean yes, you are correct, it indeed was, BUT....he had been training at a very high level for many years before that, and had run many 10k X-c races before, so it is not like he was not READY for a 10k at that point. It was still damn impressive, but don't act like he has TONS of soft time on that 10k that he should slice off EASILY. El G ran 12:50 in his first attempt at 5k. But he had been training high mileage and running great mile race for years. He's got some seconds he can take off, but not tons of seconds. And Geb debuted at the marathon in 2:06. Again, he probably will take off some time off that debut, but not the % of time that you are guranteeing that Ritz will take off his 10k debut. See my point? 27:38 was Ritz' debut, but it was the result of years of training and reflected an already very high level of fitness that he had achieved. 27:20 will be another HUGE jump for him. Don't get ahead of yourself and skip ahead to 27 flat or 26:50 or SUB-26:50 (as you said he might do) when Ritz first needs to prove himself with some 27:20'ish times.
