I wondered about how letsrun would react. Nikki is a biological female who chooses "they" and races in the women's division. What is the controversy?
There would probably be relatively little controversy if she wasn’t a Nazi over she vs they being used. Even last night she already had a tweet about the announcers using they consistently this race. It makes her look like an attention seeker on top of everything else.
Well, there’d be some controversy anyway, since “non-binary” is a made up thing and if you pretend to be a made-up thing, SOMEBODY is going to say something about it. Over time and through attrition many people may decide to stop mentioning it every time a deluded person insists on others sharing their delusions, but some people will still push back. And god bless those people, too.
Don't hate Nikki at all. I really don't care what they identify as. I am a fan of the sport because I like running and racing, not because I'm interested in someone's gender identification. So that is genuinely a non-factor in my assessment of them.
I think it's cool Nikki won this race. I will be honest that, to me, this field had very little depth beyond Sage Klecker. So I'm not sure if Nikki has proved much more than what I already knew they could do, which is win mid-elite races. They will have proved to me they're back to form of 3-4 years ago when they make another world team.
She certainly looks and talks like a legit female to me. (I didn't say straight female; I've learned not to presume anything about someone's sexuality on the basis of looks.) In any age before all the furor over trans and non-binary, you wouldn't have asked this question.
