What would be an ideal way to pace a 5:30 mile. I just want to do it to see what kind of shape I am in. shouldn't be too difficult. Maybe cut down each 400m ?

If you want to stay on track you have to make sure to really push the 3rd lap. Thats where people fall off.

Do you have a buddy who can run well under 5:30? I would ask that person if they are willing to pace you. Just have them hit 82-83s.
The reason I say this is because when you're running an all-out effort, it's best to be in the moment and focus on the task at hand instead of worrying about splits.
Just get to a track and run 4 laps with a stopwatch.
Way too much thinking for a 5:30.
