I was sick a week ago, seemed like I was getting better and then it hit back again. Now 2 days till 54km race. Is it possible to recover in time and race? Anyone got any anecdotes?

Google "Zatopek effect."
Coca Cola seems to be helping. And antibiotics. I’m now going to try to eat a croissant.
just sleep, water (hydration major key), general cold / flu remedies. Mixing pedialyte and water 50/50 worked pretty well for me. Remember that fitness doesn't evaporate because you're feeling sick, you'll just have to dig a bit deeper to get to it and it will be a moderately less comfortable. Two days is a good amount of time if you take care of yourself.
I tried drinking ORS (electrolytes) but it tastes so disgusting that I can’t handle it.
I feel nauseated again after eating. Feeling pessimistic
Anything is possible depending on how much you're willing to hurt
But at what cost? Is it worth it? If you've been seriously ill, I don't know, I'd personally rather do a different race when at top fitness and be able to push 100% physically and get better results.
There is another one in about 2 weeks. Just sick of training grind and was ready to race.
The body recovers in its own time. Wishful thinking doesn't speed it up. You might feel a bit better in a couple of days but any kind of illness will have weakened you. If you push it you risk relapse and injury.
Depends on the sickness you had.
If it was something minor you probably get away with it.
Just show up at the start line and be prepared to drop out when things get worse. That would be my strategy.
I left out the example of Keino leaving a hospital bed to win the Olympic 1500 in Mexico '68. But the blood transfusion may have had something to do with that. That might not be the right route for the OP.

Antibiotics? What did you have?

If it were a 5K, I'd say go for it.
But 54K? Sit this one out.
I had a 50k race on a Saturday, my target pace was 4 min/k's. Thursday morning I was sick as a dog, took the afternoon off work. Friday a bit crap, Saturday felt normal ish, ran a parkrun arounf 4:15's, that felt ok.
SO Saturday I just dialled the pace back a bit, run around 4:10's from memory, so it is possible. Goodluck!

Not sure what did you have. If it was very mild, like a mild food poisoning, it may be possible to recover. I'd probably shoot for the race in two weeks, but if you feel good the evening before, you already paid the entry fee and the logistics are easy enough, maybe just try and be prepared to drop off.
I was so sick the day before that I couldn't get out of bed, so I called it off. Annoyingly I woke up on the day of the race feeling a lot better. But it's too late now.
I recently did a marathon while still a little sick.
the race was on a Sunday. Wednesday and Thursday I had light sniffles and fatigue. Friday night I had a short lived fever/sweats. Saturday afternoon I was feeling a bit better, still sniffles.
I decided to race and drop out if I wasn’t feeling good. I felt okay-ish during the race…just some extra nose blowing. I ended up fading hard, a combination of several nights poor sleep and bad pacing. My sniffles turned into a sinus infection that I’m still not completely over 2 weeks later
I'm feeling better. Can eat again. Hoping it lasts. I've lost so much weight while sick, I hope I can get back to strength before this 54k in 2 weeks.
