former mediocre college runner (32:21 XC, 15:17, 8:47). found cycling after college and was way more talented at that than I ever was running, I suspect because my running economy was always horrific (and I was often injured) despite a massive aerobic engine.
though I still cycle daily and enjoy training, my cycling pro days are over and i want to eventually return to running because it takes so much less time. i have been running about 15-25mpw since september 2022 and popped off a 33:30 10k and 1:13 half in november basically doing one hard tempo run + one "long run" per week. but holy snap was i smashed from that half - couldn't walk properly for 2 weeks.
i've signed up for a marathon in may and i know you can't fake your way through a Full like you can a Half. that said, I still have some local bike time trials that i'm focusing on mainly this spring with the marathon as my secondary goal. i'm trying to be realistic with what i can achieve on ~30mpw, with an additional 15 hours per week of cycling training.
where I'm at right now:
did a 10k TT at 5:25 pace and ran an 8 mile tempo run at 5:48 pace in the last 2 weeks with an effort of 7.5/10. is a 2:37 realistic in 3 months? does anyone have thoughts on how to get the most out of those 30mpw?
