You do realize they’ve run like 1 meet not at 7k ft altitude so far this season besides the ones Nico and Drew went to… not a huge data point to make your point

However, we are Feb 12th. NCAA is March 10th (in less than one month)
During the same indoor season, NAU has achieved:
3000m:
7:36, 7:49, 7:49, 7:51, 7:59, 8:00
5000m:
13:13, 13:15, 13:49
…do they did race.
UCLA and Cal Poly have zero sub 8:00 at this point.
NAU is great at 3000m and above. So good in fact that their distance runners can go down to the mile and run a competitive time once in a while
So what’s your point? NAU has never been a power in the 800 or 1500, but above distances and cross country Their are the power. Do they change their philosophy on middle distance and sacrifice what they are known for to be compared to Ucla for events that they will not score points in at the NCAA meet, nor will UCLA. In the end NAU will win championships and UCLA will not period. To compare the successes of NAU to UCLA because what the UCLA accomplished at the high school to what the NAU has done is not even debatable. Those of you that is always attacking Coach Smith because of what is Mid distance runners have accomplished is not even debatable many of NAU can run a lot faster if they were training for those distances but they will be a lot more successful at longer distances. At the end NAU will score alot more points at distances above 3000 meters and cross country then UCLA will ever score in distances of 800 1500 or cross country. so in essence let it go about all the success the UCLA Coach has over NAU.
Exactly my point 1:50 and 3:57 does not remotely come close to qualifying for NCAA, but Under 7:45 and under 13:35 has a change and don’t even go into comparing UCLA in cross country to NAU. Get off UCLA and their Coach to NAU training high school runners to NCAA runners. Let it go all u Newberry Park fanatics you are brainwashed with the Coach.

My point is:
Why did Colin go to NAU? Why is Aaron going to NAU?
Do you really think that Vanhoy’s (Cal Poly) top athlete will finish the year with a 1:52 and 4:00? What about next year? He already has guys running 4:00, 4:02, 4:03 and 4:08. So, 3 of his 4 milers have run faster than Colin this year. The only guy who has not run faster had a 3:55.8 SB (1500m) last year.
not really on topic but Quax strikes me as a guy who needs to talk less and focus on running faster. Swear he's always flexing how good him and NAU are whilst under-performing compared to his teammates
I believe the whole point of this discussion is that some followers of the UCLA distance Coach because of the success he had at the high school level with transfer to the college level it could, but as right now there are dozens of college coaches that are much better. to put the UCLA runners in the class of many dozens of college runners is not so. students make their college decision where to go is their choice and to say that certain runners made the wrong decisions have one semester is completely wrong. just get off Newbury Park Coach is the answer to all runner problems.
Agreed OK State has the best across the events. Vanhoy brought a guy to 4th at WC however
Didn't Mario Garcia Romo go to On right after nationals? If so, Van Hoy didn't bring him to 3:30 and 4th at WC--he brought him to 3:35. Ritz (and Mario's new training partners, Ollie Hoare, Yared Nuguse, and Joe Klecker) brought him to 3:30/4th.
