Give me 2021 Hocker. Closed the NCAA 3K in 25.4 an hour after closing a 3:53 mile in 25.8
Can I ask a clarifying question? Prime kicks or in a race next weekend? What distance is the race?
Because I think 2021 Hocker takes this hypothetical but in 2023, who knows?
And at the end of a 5000m or at the end of a 1500m? Is it a tactical race or fast from the gun? For me, it comes down to those variables.
Woody in a longer race run at a faster pace.
Hocker in a 1500 (at any pace) and a slower 5000m?
Cole hasn't really shown his big kick since 2021. So today it's Woody for the battle of the kicks. Cole has a chance to change my mind this weekend.

In a 4 flat 1500 race maybe Hocker but in every other applicable format I would choose Kincaid. Hocker can't even start a race right now let alone finish it.

I meannnnnnn didn't he run like 3:31 at the Olympics "clean" unless you're implying he got away with jt?
What's interesting about both of them is they don't have the classic "kicking form" of someone like Lagat or Coe, with beautiful mechanics as they power away. Kincaid and Hocker both just seem to hit a gear and then grit their teeth while flying to the finish. I'd say it's usually foolish not to pick the 21 yo 1500 runner over the 30 yo 5k/10k guy but on current form I'm going with Woody.

Yes both are more Manzano style as opposed to the pretty kicks of a Lagat/Coe/Bekele.
Woody has the better 300 out kick and Hocker has the better kick from 150 to go is how I’d handicap it. Hocker can get to low-12s pace for a 100m, but Woody can drop a 38-second 300 blistering the whole way.
Hocker, easily. You gotta remember the guys Kincaid is racing are long distance runners, not milers. Kincaid has a very good kick for a long distance runner. Milers can all kick like he can. Kincaid's kick is average for a miler, whereas Hocker's is exceptional for a miler. Mo Farah also had a very good kick for a long distance runner, but only average for a miler. It's all relative. Put Kincaid in a tactical 1500m and he would be exposed.

Kincaid's kick is overrated. Hocker outkicked an olympic gold medalist (centro)
