Watching HYP indoors-Please stop just showing zoomed in leader for the whole race and staying on him/her after the finish!

Track coverage for a lot of these meets is the same. They show a zoomed-in view of the leader/s during the entire race so you can’t see the race. It’s like watching someone run an interval by themselves.
and when the leader crosses the line they just show the leader breathing hard instead of showing the rest of the racers finish.
The guys running the AV are awesome for doing it, and I know they know track, but the whole point of tv coverage is so we can watch the race, not just watch the leaders

I complained about this at the high school level. My kid wasn’t in the race but it was during Covid and supposedly was being live-streamed to keep crowds down. It was a longer race. Maybe the 5000m and this athlete ran away with the race. The videographers replied that who wouldn’t want to watch her. She was great watch (I’ve seen her brother’s name mentioned on this site) but we missed the race developing behind her. It was probably entertaining. I also felt bad for those families who stayed home and didn’t even see their kid.

Honestly it's better than their usual tactic of waiting until one of the leaders makes a big move and at that exact moment they switch to the chase pack.

I agree with this. There's a video of the 1972 Olympics 5000 where the British announcer names each runner as they cross the line and the camera shows them.

I don't want to see the winner jogging, etc, I want to see the race.

And during the race, choose a camera angle that mimics, as much as possible, being there. You can't get a sense of the race focusing on one runner and the secondary places and times DO matter.
