Hello, there!
I'm 45 and I've never ran before last august, although I have a past of median intensity training in martial arts (from 13 to 35). After a hiatus with a sedentary lifestyle until the beginning of 2021 when I started doing some excercises, intermittent fasting and nutritional education to lose weight (lost 20kg - 44lbs in 10 months, reaching my ideal weight of 63kg - 139lbs).
The company where I work have a very friendly running team and they were going to run on a local relay race last october, so out of nowhere I decided to give it a try and participate in a group (8 people running 5K each), that's why I started running since last august. I managed to finish my 5k in the relay race in 5'08", which I know it isn't much but it was extremely satisfactory to me.
I kept on training and raising mileage, although my timing isn't the best I have been managing to run 25K (15,5mi) each time I practice, including 30K (18,6mi) last december, 27th and doing 75K within 6 days (25K last thursday, 25K last sunday and 25K today) to improve myself for a half marathon that is predicted to happen in the middle of this year.
One thing that I realized about eating before running, after a variety of trial and error during the short period of time since I started running, is that I feel better when I run fasted: eating my last meal around 9pm and waking up at 5:00 to start running at 5:30~6:00 am.
I don't feel exhaustion on my legs after doing 25K anymore, although I still felt some after doing 30K.
People in the running group where I work and many sites that i've seen are unanimous to say that 20~25K is the longest length that we should run to practice for a full marathon.
I would appreciate very much if you, experienced ones, could give me any input or advice about me doing a full marathon in the near future, perhaps next year. Would I be crossing some limits, maybe I should keep doing half marathons for some more years, or should I go for it?
