Nice. I liked this series: Spy in the Wild.
I think that our historical assumption that whales are "just animals" will be one of our most obvious and embarrassing moral failures (when seen from the perspective of future generations).
Whales clearly have a huge social and emotional mental landscape and it seems their intellectual skills are also amazing. I am ashamed that we treat them not much better than we treat trout and cod and halibut (creatures with like an IQ of 8).
It reminds me of when Spanish conquistadors and English explorers assumed anyone who didn't speak their language (or share their religion) was some kind of savage without the ability to suffer physically or emotionally. Moral laws didn't apply!
We treat whales that way simply because we can't understand their (complex) language. Whales are amazing creatures and we have almost wiped them off the earth to make lamp oil and other stupid things.

That was pretty cool. Orcas are probably the smartest animal in the sea and one of the smartest outside of primates. They’re THE apex predator of the seas. Videos of them destroying great whites, tossing them around, and tearing out their livers are also pretty amazing.

Amazing indeed. Orcas can cause Richter 7 icequakes.
