I already included Terry Fox. Except he did it while dying and didn’t use the money to buy designer bags.

Dean Karnazes. I spent maybe a decade of my life thinking he was probably some genetic freak before I got more into running myself and realized he was just an average runner with prodigious self promotion skills.

My definition of the greatest hobby jogger would be the person who perfectly and consistently embodies the ideal concept of a hobby jogger.

They would have to be exactly 30% heavier than their ideal race weight. As a male they would run precisely 24:32 for every 5K that they jog in. 24:32 is the perfect hobby jogger time for the perfect greatest hobby jogger.

Centro hobby jogged his way to an Olympic gold in Rio.

Can't beat that.

My 5K PR was 17:02. Was I way too fast to qualify for consideration?

Forgot to add: I won a sht load of age group trophies and used to shamelessly revel in people telling me that I “ought to be in the Olympics.”

I’d vote for the local “flip flop” runner. I’m not sure if he’s still around, but I let him run with me for a couple miles here and there when I was a low 2:5X marathon runner. He seems like he killed a few too many brain cells before quitting alcohol, but was a nice fixture on the trail.

Of course he never monetized it.

I don’t really follow Dean K, but it seems like he probably made more off of above average talent than B level Olympians (via book sales and marketing).
