Most college kids, even if talented, haven’t done the mileage to even be able to finish a full marathon without fading and hurting very badly. Then after graduating college, fat and bald 👨🦲 and adult responsibilities kick in and make it difficult to even get to the starting line. Facts
Why do so many SEMI-fast runners get so offended by the rest of the world running? Are you mad that they are enjoying something you’ve chosen to slave over and will never be elite at?
3hr is a very tough time for the average person, and for most dedicated runners honestly. Until you’ve run a marathon, you have no grounds to say whether the BQ is tough or not. Wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve never run over 15mi.
I get the landscape here. LR has lots of former HS/college runners that are small and historically lean. But not all of us were either of those. Some of us just love competition against a version of ourselves or some goal or other person AND weren't really fast runners in a previous iteration.
For the rest of us, a BQ is impressive. It shows that you ran a time that demonstrated commitment against some or all of the following: (1) age; (2) injury; (3) zero running coaching/background; and (4) family or professional commitments.
My PB is 3:11 at age 50. I would love to be a 3:0x marathoner. But (1)-(4) are literally conspiring against that.
So to FIFY your title: "BQ is unimpressive, to me because I lack perspective, among other things."
