I just had a nail pulled from the tire of my car....why and how are nails finding there way on roads. it got me to think, I can't come up with a reason why they are there
Work trucks and hooptie pickup trucks are full of untold volumes of garbage, primarily lunch and trade-related. I used to pick up nails, screws, bolts, tools, on every lunchtime stroll but gave it up when I got tired of bending down.
One of my regular running routes passes a neighborhood parking spot for some sort of utility truck. He moves it twenty feet or so every so often, as the volume of oil and other fluids it leaks onto the road will actually form huge puddles.
They renovated the house next door to mine. I ended up having to replace all 4 tires because I kept getting nails in them.
This. Was told the tire stores around construction zones/areas do a roaring trade when construction ongoing.
How come these construction workers/pick up owners never seem to get punctured tires?
Definitely. A huge multistory condo went up on my commute route, not far from my house. I had nails (well, screws more often) in my tires all the time. Probably at least 2 in each tire and for sure 3 in one tire over a year+. Took me a while to figure it out and by that time I was (and remain) a pro at plugging tires. Its stupid simple. I finally replaced the tires and the plugs were never a problem, I got new tires because the tread wore out.
Once I figured it out, I did complain like hell to the city and they leaned on the company. Most of the screws got in the road (I think) when they'd toss trash and scraps off an out of the building into rolloffs...They miss frequently...
“They” don’t want you asking these questions. The tires come with nails in them. If your tires last forever and you never need to replace them the Michelin Man doesn’t get to eat at all those restaurants. It’s planned obsolescence.
Look at the road closely and you'll see it is nailed down, like a railroad but with smaller spikes. Keeps it from shifting around under the weight of the cars.
I have a nail/screw in my tire right now. It’s an SUV with 22” tires, so a replacement tire is $500. The screw is close to the sidewalk, so I’m not sure it can be plugged. I purchased wheel and tire coverage for the first time with this car, so I’m taking it in tomorrow to see how valuable the coverage is.

All that stuff being hauled off, no tarp, no cover, lose nails and screws either bounce or are blow out. Look along the side of the interstates and you'll all kinds of stuff, pallets, couches, various pieces of furniture, ladders.
People are stupid. They load up these trucks and take off a 80+ mph never thinking about how much wind that is and how easy that stuff will just blow out the back.
Farmers used to throw them on the road to stop people pulling in or parking by gates to fields.
I'm not quite so sure you are correct here. Almost all of my families are farmers. If what you posted is true, then the farmers would face the same hazard they were trying to stop others from doing. Doesn't make sense to me.
