I used to assume that a track was as perfectly measured as it comes. I mean, really, there is no excuse when you buy pre-measured materials and can use a wheel to measure it when designing. But when I saw a story about McColgan having her record rescinded from a short course, it got me thinking just how accurate your run of the mill public track is...one that isn't hosting big-time events.
Further I always get 0.26 miles on my local track with my watch, and seemingly so do most other people on Strava for this segment. Watches can be off a bit, but other places I usually get 0.24-0.25. Wondering if trusting the reliability of a track isn't as sure of a thing as I thought.
It seems excessive to buy a wheel myself to have trust in my local track. I may be just a little neurotic here. Wondering if anyone else has stooped to such measures for the peace of mind.
