as long as your glycogen 'stores' are already 'full' from carbs, eating a bit of fat and protein the day before isn't going to hurt. whatever you eat by that time is probably completely digested by the next day and nearly on its way out. it might hurt if you ate it 2 hours before the race because it sits in the stomach and takes longer to digest than carbs 🤔
i think the key thing to avoid the day before a race is fibre because that could get messy.
Who eats at McDonalds under any circumstances?! No one who works in fast food cares about food.
Real people. You are likely one of those skinny distance weirdo who are neurotic about everything. I saw you at the expo. Looking like a fetus in a baseball cap with a water bottle with national park stickers on it
No cap I had mcDs an hour before I ran a PR then rushed right back there afterwards for some more of that salty magic goodness. What do these health nuts have in common, they all brag to me about their clean diet while I'm crushing a froster and they all have slower PRs than me.
I eat fast food almost every day for lunch. I just don't order soda or fries and hold all sauces. I do make sure to have oatmeal and fruit for most breakfasts and stick to rice and chicken/ fish for dinner.
6'-2", 155lbs. Sub 5 mile, sub 17 5k in my mid 40s off 25 miles a week.
I knew a USATF 1500 champ that would eat meticulously healthy until the night before. Then he'd go out, get a juicy burger and some fries the night before.
Since when was McDonalds considered actual food? You can put it in your mouth, chew on it, swish it around, spit or swallow. You might enjoy that process, or be disgusted. But I didn't think it was actually considered food, that the human body could actually do anything with. Is it? Similar to eating styrofoam pellets: It's probably not going to kill you right away, in small amounts, but won't help you in any way.
In that sense the small amount of weight it had in your stomach, can be subtracted from the actual time you would have run. Probably 1/4 lbs, which is 0.5 sec per mile, so about 13 seconds slow than you would have run without it weighing you down.
But damnit, if you offer me a 1/4 pounder, fries and coke, I'll say hell yes, every time.
30 years ago when I ran 31 minutes for 10,000 for the first time, it was a night race. I was a late decision to run it and at lunch had a double bacon cheeseburger and fish sandwich from Burger King.
Maybe I would have broken 31 had I not eaten that lunch? Or maybe would have bonked and run 33?

I eat Chick-fil-A once a week and McDonald’s 3-4 times per month. Also in my 40s and a little slower than you. 6’1” and 145lbs.
McDonalds is not that bad for you in moderation and it tastes pretty good. I also don’t eat fries or soda (occasionally a Diet Coke or unsweet tea).
A super clean diet is overrated when you are running high mileage. I do eat a lot of rice and fish on the weekends when I go out to nicer dinners.

So you guys don't go all the way. You don't drink soda or fries. That definitely makes your fastfood meal a lot less unhealthy.
