I'm a 19 year old runner with poor raw speed. Part of the problem is that my heel lift is horrible. Even when running 60 secs per 400 my heel is 5-6 inches from my ass, maybe 5 inches from my ass when sprinting all out. If I grab my ankle and pull my foot towards my butt, the closest I can get is 4 inches away. I definitely can't do "butt kicker" form drills. Does anyone have this problem, or recommendations for stretches/drills to imrpove my flexibility and form? Oddly, I'm very flexible in almost every other way besides this. I think improving my backlift would increase my pure speed as well as my distance times (short lever versus long lever being more efficient). Any ideas? My goal is to be able to run and kick my own butt by spring track season, and improve my 200, 400, and 5k times. Thanks.
