What a slow high school runner shouldn’t do is post the same thread three times. If you were running sub 16 it’d be interesting, but you’re “racing” at a jogging pace
No, at “19:20 guy” should not purposely sabotage his race buy going out at a pace he knows he can’t hold, leading to a big positive split, and demoralizing slowing of pace at race end.
19:20-guy should run 19:20 pace for the first 2/3 of the race then empty the tank if he feels there’s anything extra left.
Then, if 19:20 guy finishes the race as a 19:10 guy, he can and should repeat the process, but at 19:10 pace for the first 2/4-3/4 of his next race.
Be realistic and try to lower your PR a little bit each race. Don’t shoot for a career day every time and blow up every time.
