Isn’t there a story about Wetmore refusing to coach one of his runners post-collegiately? Because he knew he wasn’t quite good enough to make a living with running professionally and he’d be better off getting his adult life going.
No college coach owes post collegiate’s their time/training. If he didn’t take on a runner that is completely his choice and within his rights and it doesn’t need explanation.
Yeah but you gotta be a realistic with your hopes and dreams there skippy. Be great if every 30 minute 10k guy could make a living going for the dream but this sport don’t pay that well.
go to a coach who has produced no olympians, or to a coach who has coached steeple olympians. All because they use science to look at body percentages?
In a couple years the disgruntled former NC State athletes who grew up entitled and think it's someone else's fault they didn't progress from the Wolfpack JV to the Olympics will start bubbling to the surface.

this is one of the root causes of depression and anxiety in society. Expectations not in alignment with reality. for running or anything in life.
life is hard. All of our ancestors knew this. for some reason we like to kid ourselves. doesn’t work out so well, unless you work for or own stock in big pharma.
Our ancestors were primarily concerned with objectively tangible goals like putting food on the table and having a roof over their heads. They were not programmed from birth by media, motivational speakers, schools, and prosperity gospel religions to seek wealth and beauty above all else. Our society is based on platitudes like, "You can be anything you want!" regardless of whether you have the DNA or the drive to get it. Athletes are not immune and often get more warped perceptions of their talent from a system that rewards nearly everyone that plays (Tenth place medals, All-State honors for the top 21 athletes, deep team awards, wild card entries, etc.).
It's OK to dream but we all need to grow up and face facts at some point.
They aren’t good for men either if they lead to bad bone density
So where’s the outrage? where are the investigations?
This IS the outrage and investigation. But as the world operates, only the women have been targeted to use body composition alone as an excuse for not improving. As a former cu athlete, I can 100% say that the men on the team do not have the same emphasis placed on their body compositions as the women do. Mark and Heather seem to see the men as full human beings with other aspects of their lives that could impact performance, while the women are seen as bodies easily manipulated.
So no, weight requirements or body compositions are not good for men or women. However, women are usually the ones impacted most by these systems and that is why you don’t see as many men on the team as outraged as the women - they are not treated the same and never will be.
Like when the guys on the team raped the female kicker? Yeah totally underserved.
Mark Wetmore is a douche bag. CU is a school for douche bags. The CU xc team is a whole bunch of douche bags and always has been. Everyone who is actually elite knows this. Couldn’t happen to a better program.
Fun Fact: CU has not had a male ncaa champion in over 15 years in any season. Overrated.
Get a life Chad Noelle. Surprised you haven’t been kicked out of Boulder yet.
Boo you guys are lame. You never know what you can do unless you try and give yourself the same opportunity as those who were told they could do great things after college. A lot of post collegiate athletes are also capable of working/developing a career outside of running and running at the elite level. If you’ve made it onto a powerhouse D1 team then you are a hell of a lot closer to running professionally than the vast majority of the US. You have to dream it first before you can do it. Not even trying is lame and it’s against the spirit of the sport.
