NCAA XC: Who was your "5th" Man/Women Of the Week?

    On our supporters club podcast we discussed how the 5th runner often is the most important in college XC.

    Then we wanted to give some props to some fifth runners on teams who did really well. Jon Gault then praised Brooke Rauber who had such a breakout performance at ACCs she was the teams 4th runner but gave them the team title by finishing in 10th.

    But her transformation was the stuff athletes dream of.

    At Joe Piane she had been NC State's 8th runner in 61st place and at NuttyCombe she was 8th in 124th.

    Yet at ACCs, she was 10th in the conference and 4th on the team to propel NC State to the narrow win over Notre Dame.

    Who are your nominees for the "5th runner" of the week?

    Brady Grant for Alabama was kind of similar to Rauber. Jacob Wiggers was the normal backend scorer for Alabama at their prior 2 races (4th and 5th respectively), but had a rough day at SEC's and finished as their 8th runner. Brady Grant had finished 6th at their prior 2 races including back in 74th place at Joe Piane but he stepped up and finished 4th for the team in 19th overall to help them eek out a 5 point win.
