I grew accustomed to fitting in short outdoor runs or indoor bike rides during breaks at the office. While my heart rate would normalize quickly, I started noticing that I'd feel hot for usually around 35 minutes, regardless of the effort. Not like profusely sweating but still flushed, uncomfortable, and unproductive. Closer to an hour if I baked in the Chicago summer sun.
Now working from home and having more control over the environment, it's better because I can take my shirt off, stand in front of the fan, and blast the AC. On cooler days this process is much faster, but it's still adding on at least 20 minutes of what is basically throwaway time. In high school this was minimized since we spent a solid hour every day "stretching" so I never really noticed.
At this point in time, my thought is that I should just buy that insulated ice barrel for $1000 because it should reduce my cooldown time to virtually nothing, while providing some benefits of an ice bath and, frankly, a regular bath.
Do other runners also struggle with lingering elevated body temperature? Are there established methods for managing it?
