I find it funny that the top American marathoners are getting older and older while in the cycling world, the top Tour de France riders are getting younger and younger. Whereas the winners and top contenders for the Tour de France are now 20-25 years old, the top American marathoners, especially the women, are now 32-40 years old. You can't say it's because of the need to build endurance and miles since you do a ton more of that training for the Tour de France and new contenders are getting younger and younger. Those Tour de France contenders are now being recruited at 18 years of age whereas that's unthinkable for American marathoning. To be a top American marathoner, it's more like you need to have a kid first.
