She was telling me at work the other night that you fart consistently while you're sleeping and smell really bad. She was going to move to the spare room but didn't want to hurt your feelings so be a man and deal with it.

There is a lot more to this story(isn’t there always?). What’s the point in telling us that you have a “mostly great marriage” and your wife is “still pretty hot but…” ?
1) She should be evaluated for sleep function, apnea and possible need for CPAP.
2) Ear plugs usually mitigate enough to stay in bed and get back to sleep. If not, tell her she'd snoring and to move her head, try to sleep on her side, experiment with pillows, etc.
3) I agree with a previous poster that if none of the above works/helps, start off the night together and move to another room on the nights you need to. No biggie.

Happily married for 32 years - I moved to the spare bedroom 15 years ago. Even though the wife and I are not large people, a king-sized bed was not big enough to dampen the constant movement, snoring, etc.
I come back in the morning and we have coffee and chat - sometimes I get lucky.
I'm in my 40s with a great marriage. I moved all my clothes to the basement and sleep in the spare bed down there because I have three daughters and can't use the upstairs bathroom in the morning when they are all getting ready for school.
My wife occasionally complains that I don't come to bed anymore. Other than that, no downsides for me.
I'm in a diff room most nights. I'm the snorer, and we both sleep better this way.
This is actually really common. People don't always like talking about it but it should be more normalized.
Agreed! I have been married for over 10 years and my spouse sleeps in a separate bedroom because he snores, tosses and turns, etc. He's a restless sleeper and wants to be able to move around without waking me up. I think many couples do this but they don't talk about it.

It's a good idea Been married for 21 years and sleeping in my own room for a few years now .We fall asleep together but if I wake up I just grab my pillow and quietly go to my own space .It works well especially as we don't always do our am runs on the same morning. Also great to have my own person space for my running gear so don't disturb my partner when I gear up for my pre dawn sessions.

Yes it's great to be able to move around and not have to consider disturbing my partner. Agree 100%

Same here, when my wife lets me know I'm keeping her up I'll go to the couch. However we always start off together.
Just chiming in to normalize and say that my husband and I do not always co-sleep due to both his snoring and sometimes different work/sleep schedules. We share a bed about 1/3-1/2 of the time, and most of the time we sleep in separate bedrooms. I honestly think it has helped our marriage, because we are both better rested and in a better mood more often.
Like someone said, this is pretty common, and it's called Sleep Divorce - it really needs a better name. My wife needs a lot of quality sleep, and I can go 5-6 hours no problem. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I have trouble falling back asleep, so I just headed to the spare bedroom. After my kid was born, I stayed in the spare turned kid's room for the 1st 9 months then occasionally slept on the couch, so my wife gets full sleep. I sleep in bed with her maybe 20% of the time. Coincidentally, many years later, there's been zero "shutoff."
