follow up: does anyone know why this is? im sure WA explains but I don't really care to check. first thing that comes to mind is to make it easy for record keeping when birth dates are unknown

What race stereotypes you are talking about?
There are obvious morphology differences in the world.
Just take the case of North Africa. Why you never see an Egyptian bright and middle/long distances (and they have 103 millions population).
However you see a lot of World champions in Weightlifting from Egypt.(Qatar got some Gold medals in Weightlifting at Tokyo from naturalized athletes)
