I am running the JFK 50 miler this November and I am looking for recomendation on a shoe for the race. Last year I wore the vaporfly 4% and regretted it. The rocky Appalachian Trail chew them up. I twisted my ankles about 50 times in that trail and fell twice.
The course is 5 miles on paved road, then 12 miles on the very rocky Appalachian trail, then 26 miles of flat unpaved dirt/gravel surface towpath followed by 8 miles of paved road to the finish.
I was thinking of the Hoka Speedgoat or the Salomon Pulsar. But I have never owned trail shoes since I never run on trails, but don't want to make last years mistake.
Any recomendation on a shoe that can be used for the trail, the road and be good for a 50 mile race?
