I have a lot of parents ask me about the best cross country racing shoe for their child. Most of the kids train in Hokas is there a good racing, cross country shoe to race a 5k in?

The Nike Zoom Rival XC for $32 off of nikes website is a upgrade over trainers. Light weight and a decent spoke for the money. The next level up is the Victory XC for right around $100. This would be for the more serious XC runner. The Dragongly from nike are the best Nike spike and will run you $150ish.
Hoka Saucony and just about every manufacture will make a decent SC spike.
Find a running store and try out what ones work best. It's worth putting in a little time, and then money, to find the right racing shoes.

Good suggestions. Even the more expensive spikes can be had for a lot less $ if someone is willing to buy an older model. Most HS kids do not need to spend $100-150.
The Saucony Kilkenny Xc8 & 9, Carrera Xc4,Havok Xc3, are all good. Adizero XCS is also a good spike. The New Balance XC5K v5. I would think that all can be found for $50-60. Maybe even less.
Running Warehouse usually has good deals on closeouts. Check the local running stores. Many stores discount old inventory. Holabird used to sell spikes but I don't believe that they still do.
