I’m a junior in highschool who started running cross country my sophomore year.
but I’ve always done track. the summer before my sophomore year I barely ran, I took a month break after track and started “summer” training in July 1st. That summer i ran one 30 mile week and rest was under that, I averaged 20 miles for around 6 weeks before practice started with the team in mid august.
Anyways that year I ran a Pr of 17:39
now onto this year I’ve logged in 460 miles from June 15th- august 25th, with four 50 mile weeks and a average of 41 miles per week for the summer. I did no workouts until the week of my first race. But despite all of the mileage, my first meet
I only managed to run 19:20 (hilly course)
and the second meet 17:54 on a insanely flat course with a absolutely no hills. Got 23rd place.
I know that’s not horrible time but I was expecting to be able to atleast break 17 minute considering I was able to run 17:39 my first year with barely any summer training.
I need advice on how to improve my time.
Track prs (800m: 2:10.72) (1600m 4:58) only ran 1600m one time
