Hey letsrun,
I'm well aware that this topic has been brought up before, but would love to hear more opinions on what marathon plans people have had success with, as well as any modifications you made and why you think the given plan worked for you.
A few details: 31 M, last 2 marathons in 2:43 peaking at around 75-85mpw for 3 months prior. I followed this obscure "Luke Humphreys Hansons Marathon Method" 60-80 MPW plan I found on a PDF from somewhere, basically had 3Q sessions a week (speed, marathon tempo, and long run each week). In general, I feel like I scale better over longer distances and lack top end speed/high Vo2 Max - can't break 5 min/mile, probably have 17 min 5k ability. I'm wondering if a higher mileage plan might be better since I haven't gone higher than 85mpw before and feel better doing longer threshold/progression type stuff rather than fast/short reps.
Ideally I'd like to follow a structured plan rather than winging it with my own workouts. Currently considering Pftizinger's 86-100 mpw plan vs Daniel's 2Q. I like the flexibility of the latter but the workouts seem f-ing impossible (very first workout 17 weeks out is a 20 miler with 5E+6M+1T+5M+1T+1M+1E, who on earth can do this?!?). Welcome any other suggestions/friendly comments of any sort.
TIA for reading and taking the type to reply!
