Belgium, Austria, or Demark - for my first European vacation?

Would be staying in the capital city of either 3.

my heart is leaning toward Austria at the moment. I will be going solo as 29 year old male. 6’4” 195 if that matters.

Day trips to other cities from the center stations is also to factored in.

You'll have similar pleasant weather in all 3 that time of year so weather isnt much of a factor.

You can't go wrong with any of them.

If in Belgium you'll explore its cities and charming villages 30 minutes away near the coast. In Austria you'll spend most of your time in one of the greatest cities with trips into the mountains. In Denmark you'll probably spend all of your time on the coast.

For a first time visitor I'd choose Vienna.

I’m not a giant Brussels fan but Antwerp, Liege, Bruge are all very cool. Loved Vienna and Salzburg. You can also visit Budapest from Vienna, which is one of my favorite cities. From Brussels you could visit Paris or Amsterdam. Nature is a lot nicer in Austria than Belgium. I’ve never been to Denmark, so I can’t give you any advice on that one. I would personally go to Austria. Weather won’t be great in either place, but you might get lucky

Austria's great, lots of variety with the landscape and cultural nuance. Big vote for Austria, but nothing wrong with the other two.

Danish dude here. Go to the smaller picturesque cities of Belgium and get some freedom fries :)

Big fan of Belgium, but not sure I would spend 8 days there either. Once you are in Europe it is so easy to get around that you could visit a few places.

Some really bad advise here. Dont really get why anyone would go to belgium. It combines ugly, dirty cities with little cultural or historical value and the country isnt famous for beaches either. I live 200km away from the border and noone I know goes to belgium on holiday.

Austria is fine if you like hiking or go to a mountain lake. but it does not mix well with staying in vienna. stay closer to salzburg or innsbruck then.

Denmark combines boring with nice and clean. Mostly staying at the coast and beaches. But the weather can be pretty cold. might be too cold to take a swim or just stay at the beach.

for a first time traveller to europe italy is the best option. Great historical and cultural heritage and history. Nice people (contrary to the french), mountains, coastlines with the best beaches and good weather.

I am of Scandinavian origin myself but I wouldn´t go to any of the 3 countries in October unless you don´t care about cold weather.

I would go to Spain, f. example Barcelona, Valencia or Malaga. Or to Italy (Rome) or Greece (Athen).

I live in at the Mediterranean Sea in Spain in the Autumn and the Spring, in the mountains in the winter and only in Scandinavia in July and August.

First of all, one week is too short and end of October is a bad time. The weather could suck.

Belgium has Brussels, Austria, Vienna and Salzburg and Denmark has Copenhagen.

Vienna and Copenhagen are great, Brussels is not bad. I would go with Vienna but Copenhagen is a very close second and Brussels is a very good third.

So whatever you do will be good.

Belgium is a day trip a most. Enjoy fries. and beer, then move on

Austria is stunning. Try to get out of the city and into the mountains if only for a day....

The OP didn't mention Italy, Spain, Greece, or southern France; he listed Vienna, Brussels and Copenhagen options in October. The temperature in all three vary from a high of 60 farenheit to a low of 50. That's decent weather for sightseeing.

Europe is small enough that any city you choose allows you to visit plenty of wonderful places.

If I chose Brussels I'd visit Bruge, Ghent, and possibly Amsterdam or the Ardennes or Bastogne areas.

If I chose Vienna I'd take a train to one of Austria's smaller towns in the mountains and/or visit Bratislava or Budapest.

If I chose Copenhagen I'd visit coastal villages, perhaps ferry over into Sweden or train to Hamburg.

Plenty of great places to visit in and out of these 3 cities.

End of October is too late for the Mountains.

Go to Demark, you will be the first!

Belgium sucks, they let Hitler just roll on through—Schicklgruber, the Austrian.

Go to Denmark. It sucks too but if you are a Scando, you will like it. The beautiful girls there can ride a bike at 30 km/h and their long hair doesn’t get messed up, a real talent! Some good food and beer to be found, some excellent Turkish fare😂. If you like pickled fish, crackers and that stuff, the cafe at Louisiana is excellent👍.

Parts of Vienna are ok, Salzburg is way nicer. Weather in the mountains is variable, can already suck by that time, but you might get lucky. Be careful, temps drop quickly with altitude, rain, evening, etc in late October.
