    Does anyone else remember the Nike Viperfly sprint spike that was supposed to be released in 2020? It got canceled because it was apparently too good. Tests with sprinters reportedly had "staggering results". Does anyone have any information on these tests, or any other information on this spike in general? It seems to have been canceled very quietly, because I never heard anything about it.

    I do wish it was released, even if it was banned from official competition. Based off of what I have heard, it seems to have been a huge leap forward in sprint tech, and it would have been super cool to see what it could do in time trials.

    It was all marketing hype. Although the principles behind the design were that of a spring, it had very little spring.

    As others have pointed out, having a spring under the foot of a sprinter may not be the most efficient way to transfer energy. A big change in sprinting mechanics would need to occur to overcome longer ground contact time.

    Small track shoe company TS has their own "viper gts," the forefoot of which is clearly meant to resemble the shelved Viperfly. I'm half-inclined to get a pair just for the hell of it.
