Bumper,at 35 bucks a pair I suggest you stock up!
They hold up real well.If you get to the point where they are your every day running shoe then you will be well on your way to having your feet and ankles strong and flexible enough to run in anything or for that matter nothing!
For example today I ran 9 out of 11 miles barefoot.Running in the proton has really facilitated the transition to barefoot running which is the best way to run if you have the right surface.
There are 2 problems with the proton vs barefoot.
1.Diminished proprioception.
Short term I will try a textured shoe insole:

2.Toes can't grip the ground. This is a big problem. After running barefoot for awhile then going back to the proton I notice right away that my toes feel restricted.
My long term solution is to design a "shoe" that has the least impact on the foot while still providing enough protection for running on any surface.Of course the type and amount of protection will depend on the running surface the shoe will be used on.
