From the daily sports paper in France, le journal l’équipe, a few words about Benny Robert’s ambitions in the final, and his teammate, Gaby Tual, reflecting bitterly how he was eliminated.

Benny Robert is satisfied to be in the final and he will fight to the best of his ability. In the article, the other Frenchman, Gabriel Tual, lamented that it has been a very long season and that he is really feeling the effects of that long season now being mentally and physically exhausted. He comments that in the future he will have to organize his season in a better way to reap the benefits at the right time. He inferred that being in shape from May to September is a very difficult proposition, and unattainable for most.

Jimmy Gressier complained that he was “forced” to come to Munich with the French team from August 12-22 whereas he would have preferred to stay at altitude in Font -Romeu and arrive in the last couple of days. He suggested that the French Federation should consider his wish for the betterment of his ultimate performance in the 10,000 m where he is a serious candidate to win the gold in the European championships tonight.

Follow - The French monster right here. The battle with Crippa, Scott, Kimeli, Atkin, Kaya, et Al will be intriguing.

Another Frenchman taking part in the race, Dr Yann Schrub, a seventh year medical internist, who normally only trains once a day covering around 70 to 80 km a week and has to be the most lightly trained sub 28 minute 10,000 m runner in the books as he has run 27:49.64, on once a day training when in full medical intern practice! Mind boggling.

Benny Robert, Wightman, Kramer or other to win the 800 m which starts in just about two hours from now? Thank you for producing your predictions right here. Very sad that the Dutchman, Van Diepen, was not able to make the final. Ironically, the two Frenchmen, reverse their positions with regard to qualifying for the final, from Eugene. Benny makes it here, and Gaby is out (Tual), but in Eugene those positions were reversed. The Irishman, English, is a great runner and I’m amazed that he’s been a top runner for so many years (decade) and that is the main concern I have - that he still has reactive legs tonight. Last night we saw how the tall (6.1/1.85cm) German girl, Hering, faded in the last 200 m after leading the field on the first lap. Runners take note. The 800 is a prolonged sprint but it is not always the fastest to win but those who are strongest. Once again, in that department, the Englishman comes out on top for me. Wightman for the win.

That was the biggest shocker to me in the WCs 800 with Robert not making it to final.

I just have to commend you on the great work you have done with these threads about EC, Ghost. Taking your time translating the time zones makes it so much easier for everyone, this should be done on all championships. LR should have sent you a paycheck for this week. Thank you!

You are welcome, about 10 minutes to go to the start of the men’s 800 m and I suspect that you and most of the people are already on the edge of their seats because that race is going to be an absolute monster!

Benny Robert is not necessarily a dirty runner but that’s his style of running and he grew up playing soccer, so he has an aggressive style of running, which can be deduced firsthand from his metamorphic features. He has the fastest time this season, 1:43.75, so there’s a lot of pressure on him from the French federation but to be honest I think the Englishman will beat him. If I’m wrong I will obviously have to eat these words in about five minutes.
