Yes, exactly. If they would have chosen to simply drop support, I couldn't fault them for that. Instead, they chose to put banners and nag popups announcing "End of Life" to make the application cumbersome to use after their chosen cutoff date.
Their intent was to drive their user base off of the application and into their monthly subscription based model.
Fortunately, many of us have found ways around this intentional sabotaging of the software. ;)
Based on the way they have treated us end users of their desktop software, I would never consider doing business with Zone Five Software. What happens when they want to raise the rates of their subscription model, and I don't want to pay it, but they have all of my data somewhere "in the cloud"? No way. They have shown already how they treat their customers.
Aside from a couple of third-party plugins which use online services that no longer work the way they originally did (google maps, weather), the main application works exactly as it did from day 1. It is highly likely that it will continue to work for many, many years to come. So, I will continue to use it as long as it serves my purpose.
