This is of course assuming they have their potentials maximized in college through coaching and training.

I don't think there's gonna be a big difference. It may take L&L an extra year to get used to training at altitude as pros, but they're a year ahead of where Nico was at their age, which I think is a bigger benefit. Don't forget that 2 of the guys on the 10k team this year were Stanford alums.

L&L are a year ahead of Nico. They pretty much were where he was as a senior their junior years, that gap will disappear with age though. They've been going to altitude during the summers for years and probably will continue to do so at Stanford, but you're right there still might be a little grace period of them getting used to constant altitude when they go pro (which will hopefully happen after they graduate). I think the biggest difference to see will be the difference in coaching. Mike Smith might be the best coach in the country for their distances, and while I can't speak for the Stanford coach I doubt they are quite as knowledgeable. All three will have similar team atmospheres though. Nico became the fastest man on the Nau roster after his sophomore year, the same will happen for L&L after their freshman year when Sprout, Boyden, Robinson and Hicks graduate.

Just because Nico is their brother doesn’t mean they will have the same physical maturation rate that he’s had and they don’t have similar physiques. He has about a 30 second lead on them in the 5000m and maybe they will close the gap but probably not. Without the pandemic, Nico would probably have run something like 4:00/8:30 and the twins might not be much faster than that as Seniors.
Nico had several setbacks in high school due to a series of bad injuries his freshman and sophomore years, so it makes sense that the Young twins (who haven't really had any severe injuries besides Lex his freshman year) would be reaching their potential a little earlier.

For the moment Lex is one year ahead of Nico and Leo I think is (at least when he wasn’t sick) even ahead of them. That may seem crazy but they’re closer to Jakob Ingebrigtsen when he was an u18 than they are to Nico when he was an u18. Take a look at that :
