"Twins Lex and Leo Young are "ridiculously fit", according to Brosnan. "They are way ahead of past years. Lex is like in 13:20 shape for 5k and Leo is right there with him."

He has never run 13:20 nor coached anyone close to 13:20. He doesn't know what 13:20 shape is.
He may not have run 13:20 or coached someone to 13:20 but he did coach someone to 13:43 (Lex). He probably is making too facile a jump to 13:20, but Lex has also probably demonstrated an improvement in fitness. I just hope that Tanya Brosnan and Steve Hawkins can keep it going. Anyone who is a fan of h.s. running and sees someone running 13:43 as a junior is eager to see what he can do this year. It may not be 13:20, but it should be very good.

They were in 13:20 pace the new coach is going to ruin them.
Brosnan is gone which means the relationship they had with Brosnan is gone and so is the level of training that they did with him. Chances are unless Newbury wants to toss out some serious cash for a knowledgeable replacement these athletes are screwed. The new coach is not going to want to hear how bad he is doing or how they know what to do from a bunch of teenagers. This means everything Brosnan has done to create success the new coach is going to come in and screw it all up and train these almost elites like a bunch of high school runners. Unless they have permission to get workout plans from Brosnan and the new coach is humble enough to step aside which I doubt they are screwed and so is Newbury Parks team. My thoughts the reign is over.
maybe they are, maybe they aren't. He is seeing something different from them in workouts. Sometimes that translates to immediate results, but not always the case.
In my personal experience, the best runners I've had were always able to race above what they showed in workouts. Especially as underclassmen. As they got older, their workouts got closer and closer to matching what they could do in competition.
Even if they are just a little bit better than they were last year, that is still scary good.

Sean's wife Tanya and Steve Hawkins are the interim coaches. They both coached alongside him, know the workouts. It won't be the same as having Sean there but I don't think the fall off will be dramatic this year.

If what you claim is true, why have there been other HS GOATS not coached by Brosnan? They are a bunch of HS runners so who was Brosnan coaching? A HSer that can be a great XC runner while having the top-end speed to run 4:00 has incredible natural ability and it isn’t a result of some type of brilliant coaching. Brosnan did not invent HS distance running and the talent of the twins and Aaron Sahlman is not going away under a new coach. That coach can have them run the same workouts they did last year or something similar to what other great HSers have done and they will be every bit as good.

There were some goats coached by Mostert. Clinger, Johns, and Patrick Parker
What sort of training system has runners doing the type of workouts in late July that would allow you to predict 5k times? Is he basing this off of tempo/threshold efforts? Or is he having them hammer race pace effort repeats (doubtful)? I’m sure they are fit and are fitter than last year but taking mid summer threshold/tempos and trying to predict 5k times with any sort of reasonable accuracy is ridiculous.
