Would you choose the Nike Vaporfly Next%2 or the New Balance 5280 for a road mile?
I bought the NB5280 for a road mile, then the pandemic happened and the race was cancelled. These shoes are extremely lightweight, stiff, and bouncy but there is no outsole on the heel and will be shredded in one race on asphalt. I've only used them, so far, on the track for a couple of time trials.
In the meantime, I found the Vaporfly in the refurbished section of a Nike outlet for (relatively) cheap and couldn't resist. I haven't run in them yet, I'm planning to wear them in a half marathon in the Fall.
So now I have a choice. I don't mind shredding the NB5280 since there is not much else I can do with these shoes. But I think the VF might actually be the better choice. Both are probably overkill for me, but nonetheless I have them.
Thanks for any advice.
