"Do you think Usain Bolt just runs 100m sprints in practice?!?! No. He's probably running 1-2 miles at that pace."
"The workout for today is 4 miles at your 2 mile pace, so that when you're coming down the final stretch of lap 8, you're like, 'why am i sprinting already'?
I am not too sure about stupid things said about running but I get the BS card pulled all the time. At first it bothered me now I am pretty use to it. It’s not me talking about running it is now my daughter bringing up what I ran to her team and the kids say she is a liar. I just tell her to bring up my World Athletic Profile and show them. The other day she got in a debate with a boy on her team keep in mind she is in 8th grade however the argument was that plenty of people run under 2:00 for 800m and the boy said the WR is like 1:55 and she mentioned that my dad did not focus on the 800m and ran 1:52 and he also ran 4:04 for a mile. The immediate response that I heard was you’re a liar and so is your dad. She argued I told her just pull the page up and show them they can’t argue with facts they can argue with your words. The helper coach talks about how he was the state champion I let the guy talk I don’t correct him even though his state championship was as a member of the high school XC Team not an individual title. I am in my 40’s and still like to run but lets be real I am not going to run down anyone these days even though I am fit but I need knee surgery and typically stick to a treadmill theses days.
Look I am happy to break 6:00 these days because it still shows significant fitness but lets be real with the level of technology today with shoes and gear its not. A 4:20 mile is dime a dozen and wont interest the majority of colleges if not all that have a running program.

A 4:20 mile hasn’t interested many colleges for at least 50 years. It’s still a time to be proud of and it was a top 10 time in the Sacramento area section this year.

I was in Hawaii doing some island hopping but ended up staying a few extra days so I could get in The Great Aloha Run. Free bus service that day if you are wearing your number. This old lady on the bus asking my girlfriend what am I carry that trophy 🏆 around for. She was all excited and told her I got 3rd place. When we were getting off the bus the old lady tells me "Better Luck Next Time ".

That's just ignorant.
Yep. It isn't some top tier stuff, but if you run a 4:20 mile in high school, you can find a nice home running in college somewhere. Sheet I ran during the 90's low mileage era and that won our state meet.

I was getting D2-D3 attention when I was running 4:40.
A close friend got recruited to a midmajor D1 with 4:28 and 1:58, all region XC. Now he’s a 3:49 1:52 guy.
A teammate of mine ran 4:25 in the 1600m and 9:5x in the 3200m, and he’s top 10-15 in the NCAA for cross rn, and ranks very high in the 5000 and 10000
I walked onto a D1 with 4:20, and now I’m realistically looking to qualify for NCAAs in the 800m.
People on this site that say 4:20+ HS guys have no place in D1 need to can it. Not every highschool has their athletes running well structured 60-70 mile weeks, and there’s usually huge room for improvement for most highschool athletes. If you are regularly top 5 in a region of 100+ distance kids, you have the talent.
