just as somebody would say Jakob is big for a runner.

you can't say anything to anybody these days. people just need to learn this. and if somebody actually told her she was fat to her face, they most likely have aspergers or something similar.

How tall is Kiera? It is hard to imagine anyone thinking let alone saying she is too heavy to be a marathoner. Not doubting her story, it's just an incredibly crazy thing to say. Maybe he meant she's tall. Is she? Either way though, keep your opinions to yourself buddy.

And the boys of letsrun start yet another “investigation” to discredit a successful woman runner. Better offer a reward for whoever said it to come forward to tell the “real” story!

do elite women runners know how tone deaf they are? they are all naturally lean and athletic looking. doesnt really help women that arent built like elite athletes (and struggle with body image) to post stuff like that.

Yet people on this very board call women fat, out of shape, talked about Tuohy being too bulky, talked about Salazar being justified calling Cain fat, constantly compare women’s looks and bodies and comment on their hair, makeup and clothing choices, then say people look anorexic…so yeah, there is a need for elite women athletes to speak out.

This is all ridiculous. Bates, Hall and D'Amato are all like triplets for body type, maybe 100 lbs each:

OK I read her post. The person said "you're big for a marathoner." Stupid thing to say to a woman in this era, but yeah it could've been similar to saying Solinsky was big for a 10k runner. No indication the guy was fat shaming her.

I’ve been getting lapped by elites since freshman year of HS and I am thoroughly aware that I am shorter and heavier-boned than they are. NBD. I tried running with a BMI of 18 in HS and kept passing out in the shower.

Any body image problems I have exist outside my running and my elite women fangirling and disappear quickly when I realize I have the best cardiovascular health in pretty much any room I walk into.

What is our fascination with talking about other peoples bodies anyways? The guy should have left it at “wow you’re fit.”

I agree with her though, if this was a coach especially at the middle school or high school level, is a recipe for disaster

That's exactly what's in her post and then the OP here writes that she claimed he said "too fat" when the likely story is that he said "big." So the OP disbelieves what Kiera posted when he's the one who twisted her words. This kind of telephone game that happens on these boards when talking about women runners really bug me. A lot of guys will say that can't have happened but they're getting the whole story wrong in the first place.

Anyway, she wrote that the guy went on about it for a bit, which I think is really rude. He didn't say "tall" which I think is more neutral. Women don't really want to be called "big" or really be pinned down about what their body is, while a guy like Solinksky can take it to mean he has muscle mass. And even for Solinsky, I think it would be uncomfortable for him if a women kept saying what a big guy he was.

Would people look at the picture I posted above? None of those women is either "tall" (5'4"). nor "big" (105 lbs is a generous estimate).

Amen. If this even did happen, it would be like someone telling donny 2 scoops he is too smart or too sexy. It would be laughed off. The whole notion of an elite runner being fat shamed is absurd.

Well, I think that's why she would be concerned if this guy were a coach or said similar things to other women. If Kiera's "big" what is he saying to runners who really don't fit the mold?

I don’t completely agree with you, but I do disagree this happened.

First off, D’amato isn’t even big for a marathoner. Second, the man who he’s talking to is at the world championships shops (so probably an American) and doesn’t know who she is at all? Or even the face not looking even somewhat familiar?

Then he says she looks “big” whatever that means and has a persistent conversation with her about her weight? Just seems very unlikely. Also the fact that this guy says she looks big for “a marathoner”…what does marathoner even mean? If she was a regular fast hobbyjogger who ran marathons she would be a marathoner! Just some weird details

I don’t think she’s worried about it being directed at her but more about it being a toxic mindset in general and if the guy is in a position of power I.e. coach, it could be very damaging to a young female athlete and could snowball into destroying her future development and it could potentially ruin her love of the . These are things that should be considered before speaking
