Best Boy's Incoming Freshman Talent?????

This has been talked about in other threads, but…….

North Rockland’s Ryan Tuohy (Katelyn’s brother - 9:55 in the 3200.
His c/o 2026 teammate Claudel Cherry ran a 4:48 in the 1600.

Newbury Park easily has the best freshman class. As good as their class of 2023 was when they were in 8th grade.

Micah Dickran - 10:37 in the 3200.

Noah Sloan - 10:11 in the 3200.

Gabriel Bernardino - 10:37 in the 3200

Eli Zasloff - 4:59 in the 1600

Max Rhoe - 4:56 in the 1600

There might be more.

NP also has a freshman girl Sophia Grant who ran a 18:52 5K.

Is a 4:59/56 really that fast for an 8th grader ? Jakob ran a 4:04 1600 equivalent in 8th grade, I know you can’t compare other runners with him but that gap seems insanely big. I live in a smaller country and we have tons of 8th grader running way faster than 9:55 in the 3200, and 4:56 in the 1600 would not even place you top 100 in the nation. In fact we’ve got two 8th graders who could probably run a 5k at a faster pace than 4:59. But strangely they never get as fast as your best runners at the highschool level. Is that because of your school system, meaning kids only start training in highschool and don’t have training in middle school ? Maybe boys grow up faster in Europe than in the US because of different food ?

It's really not that fast, until you realize they are the 4th and 5th fastest for one incoming class at a single high school. Most high schools would be jazzed to have a sub 5:00 entering 9th grader, but to have 5 with 4:59 as your slowest by quite a bit, that's just stupid luck.

Also know that Nico Young hasn’t broken 5 minutes in the mile until he got to high school. He got 4th at nationals in Cc in 11th grade. He won nationals in 12th grade.

His brother Lex had a 4:55 PR before he got to high school.

Last year he got second at CC nationals.

And don’t forget that there is an incoming 8th grader Adrian Cantu (he has on an older brother on the NP team) who ran a 10:34 in a 2-mile. He will be a key to the team in a couple of years.

Iowa had an 8th grader tun 4:26 and a different one run 15:30 in XC.

And Luke Sharpe from that class of 2019 ran a 6:06 1600 in 2015. He ran a 16:07 senior year.

Owen Clemons - 15:17 in the 5K. 4:26 in the mile. 9:26 in the 3k.

Aiden LeRoux. 16:27 in the 5K.

Eliana Black. 17:51 in 5K.

Ellie Maddox. 18:14 in 5k

So either one of Zasloff or Rhoe (the 4th and 5th fastest incoming 9th graders) will never be scoring for the team

Sadly, it looks like Doshi will be the only person currently on the roster who will be scoring after this year. It will be him and all the incoming 9th graders.

I’m thinking Jonah Sloan (10:17) and Nathaniel Porter (9:52 in the 3200) (both incoming juniors) will also score.

Besides L&L/Sahlman/Cantu/Doshi/Martinez, Porter was the only person returning who ran a sub-10 in the 3200 and sub-4:30 in the 1600. So he might actually be the one taking the 7th varsity spot this year.

It’s not an uncommon thing at Newbury Park to not know who their #7 is when the season starts.
They have meets where people outside their top 6 face off against each other to see who gets the seventh spot. And I expect this will happen again this year.
