They are running up and putting medals on the athletes while they are untying their shoes. Why don't they want until the the medal ceremony when the athletes are standing on the podium? I've never seen this before.
They literally put the gold medal around Miller-Uibo's neck while she wasn't looking.
Ali on the Run show's Allison Feller (who is working in press conference area for this event) explained that it is so they can do the victory lap and show it off and also take all the photos, then the medals are engraved with the athletes' names and given to them at the medal ceremony

They are doing this because of inflation. They will already be worth more on the podium. It is a trick but you are already on to it.
