I'm racing a track 5km in about a month, and am deciding whether it's feasible and worthwhile getting a pair of spikes (likely Dragonflys). Some relevant details:
- - My track PR is 16:35 and I'd be looking to run 16:20 in ~4-5 weeks
- - My current PR is with Vaporflys (which would be my default if I don't get spikes)
- - I'm mostly a road runner, so haven't used spikes in 10+ years
- - I don't care about the $$. If I used them only once, that'd be fine with me
So I guess I'm wondering whether, given my goals, spikes are likely to make a noticeable difference, and whether 4-5 weeks is too soon to break in a new shoe without too much risk of injury, after having not used spikes for so long.
All helpful thoughts welcome!
